
The Ivan Duknović Elementary School in Marina will receive six new classrooms and a sports hall as part of a project worth 8,3 million euros, which will be fully financed from European funds for the transition to single-shift teaching.
The school expansion project is being implemented by the Split-Dalmatia County in partnership with the Marina Municipality, and the contract was presented by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Tuesday in Dubrovnik at a government meeting with county prefects, cities and municipalities.
The investment includes the extension of six classrooms, the construction of a new two-part small sports hall and the arrangement of the outdoor space.
It is also worth mentioning that four contracts for school construction in the Split-Dalmatia County were awarded today, worth a total of 26,1 million euros, of which 22,8 million euros are grants. In addition to Marina, contracts were also signed for the construction of a primary school in Jelsa, the reconstruction and extension of the Neorić school, and the reconstruction, extension and upgrade of the school sports hall next to the Gornja Poljica Primary School in Srijane.
A total of 62 contracts were awarded for projects to build, reconstruct and equip primary schools, worth 320 million euros, of which grants amount to 225,5 million euros.
So far, 225 contracts have been signed with the founders, worth a total of more than 957,6 million euros in grants, and in Croatia, 58 percent of students currently attend classes in multiple shifts due to limited infrastructure, it was heard at the contract signing.
The completed call for the construction, reconstruction and equipping of schools worth 1,43 billion euros will enable almost 92 percent of schools to operate in one shift, and 83 percent of students to attend classes in one shift. Almost 1,58 billion euros have been secured for infrastructure investments in primary schools through European funds.
