Three men (aged 40, 32 and 52) are accused of kidnapping three people with whom they had a troubled relationship on July 11 in a rented apartment in the Split-Dalmatia County, physically attacking them, tying their hands and feet, and demanding money at gunpoint.
The State Attorney's Office, in an indictment released Friday, describes how three men brought the victims to a rented apartment. As soon as they arrived, they physically attacked them and tied their hands and feet. Two of them brandished weapons and demanded that the victims obey their orders.
One of the defendants approached one of the victims with a gun and demanded that he obtain and hand over a large amount of money. Fearing for his life, the victim called a loved one and asked for help, but was unable to obtain the requested amount. The kidnapper then changed tactics and demanded the victim's documents and motorcycle keys. The frightened man handed over everything they asked for, after which the defendants released him, but kept the motorcycle for themselves.
They repeated the kidnapping a few days later.
The two defendants did not stop at one kidnapping. A few days later in July, they repeated a similar scenario with one of the previous victims. They captured her again, this time at gunpoint and using physical force to extract a certain amount of money. The victim paid the demanded amount because she feared for her life.
The oldest defendant is also charged with an earlier crime. In May of this year, he broke into a locked room of a commercial company and stole tools worth 1.600 euros.
Two of the defendants are currently in pretrial detention. The prosecution has requested an extension of detention for the oldest one due to the risk that he will repeat the crime if released. The second defendant is being held in detention due to other criminal proceedings being conducted against him.
