The remains of three men were discovered in a mass grave about a hundred meters from the Ovčare Memorial House near Vukovar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Croatian Veterans' Affairs Tomo Medved confirmed on Thursday.
Medved said that this was a primary mass grave with victims of middle and younger age.
"These three people were killed there, with firearms, and bullets and shell casings were found. This is also proof of the brutality of the Chetniks and aggressors in 1991, but also of the systematic and institutional approach in the search for missing persons," said Minister Medved.
He stated that not far from Ovčara, in Petrovačka dola, 35 mortal remains of persons missing in the Homeland War have been found so far, and that investigative activities are still ongoing at that location.
He recalled that not far from the newly discovered grave is a grave from which 200 wounded and civilians taken from the Vukovar hospital after the collapse of the city's defenses in November 1991 and killed at that location were exhumed.
According to him, a series of trial excavations have been conducted in the Ovčara area so far, the negative results of which have not discouraged the investigators, and they are continuing.
In the Vukovar-Srijem County area, 445 people are still missing, and in the city of Vukovar, 332 people are still missing.
