At the initiative of the County League Against Cancer and thanks to the cooperation with the Teaching Institute of Public Health of the Split-Dalmatia County and the Health Center of the Split-Dalmatia County, on Vis on September 23rd and on Šolta on September 24th Preventive examinations with mobile mammography are organized.
The maximum number of women that the device can scan in one day will be examined. So far, more than 100 women have registered, and we invite all interested women from the Vis and Šolta areas to contact the visiting nurse at the Health Center in their town to fill the last available spots.
This is an action that began last year in the Dalmatian hinterland at the instigation of the County League Against Cancer, in cooperation with the Dr. Andrija Štampar Teaching Institute for Public Health, from which a mammogram was rented.
Preventive breast examinations with mobile mammography in the areas of Vrlika, Muća, Zagvozd and Lovreć were organized last year, in coordination with the branches of the Split-Dalmatia County Health Center. At that time, 178 women examined between the ages of 38 and 80.
It is important to emphasize that a significant number of women underwent mammography screening for the first time in my life.
Life in smaller towns and on islands has its challenges, especially in terms of health services and the availability of mammograms. Therefore, such preventive actions are of utmost importance, and at the same time show how necessary their regular implementation is.
The action is realized with funds collected so far from registrations for the humanitarian race Race for the Cure which is held in Split and is dedicated to women suffering from breast cancer.
