Applications for ninth generation of EDIT CodeSchool, the largest schools of applied programming in Croatia, have just opened. This is the best reason to remember the journey so far, eight years, more than forty schools i over 3500 students who took their first steps in the world of programming and digital skills through EDIT.
EDIT CodeSchool, in organization Digital Dalmatia and Split-Dalmatia County, with a network platform The right place, has been visiting primary and secondary schools in the county for eight years, and students acquire basic knowledge in programming and digital skills through free programs.
School visits are not only an opportunity to present the program, but also the heart of the entire project. It is in the classrooms, in conversations with students and teachers, that we see How much EDIT changes their lives.
Perhaps someone will find themselves in our old photographs and recognize the moment that was the reason for the persistent continuation of a successful school. It is precisely these visits to schools and gatherings in classrooms that most strongly speak to how much EDIT is recognized as a place where knowledge available to everyone.
Schools and cities we visited
From day one, the goal was clear: to bring programming to as many children as possible, regardless of whether they live in Split or in smaller towns in the Dalmatian hinterland.
Over the past eight years, EDIT has visited primary and secondary schools in Split, Solin, Kaštela, Omiš, Trogir, Imotski, Sinj, Makarska, Supetar, Šestanovac, Grohote and other places.
In each of these cities and towns, classrooms were transformed into small technological laboratories of the future.
The students presented websites they had created, simple computer games, and even applications with elements of artificial intelligence. For many of them, it was first serious encounter with programming, but also the moment when they realized that they were interested in the technological world.
Small environments, big results
Of particular importance were visits to schools in smaller towns. In Imotski and Sinj, unpacking donated computers was an event that the students will remember for a long time. The new equipment made it possible to carry out more demanding programs, from more advanced programming to the first experiments with artificial intelligence.
In Trilj, Omiš or Makarska, students learned the same technologies as their peers in Split. They entered the world of intelligent development web application (RIWA) using the basics of artificial intelligence, neural networks and computer vision, and they adopted the basics HTML, CSS and JavascriptThe differences between "large" and "small" environments simply disappeared, and only the student curiosity and effort.
For professors, EDIT was an opportunity to take computer science to a higher level, and for students, it was proof that their knowledge was just as valuable as that of their peers from big cities. Thus, the motto "knowledge available to everyone"got his real confirmation.
From the classroom to an IT career
There are numerous examples of students who discovered their interest in programming through EDIT and later continued on this path: some enrolled in computer science and informatics, and some of them have returned to the classroom as assistants and mentors. Others were already creating websites for family businesses or helping their parents with digital businesses in high school.
"EDIT CodeSchool was launched precisely to give young people a chance discover the world of programming and technology on time"If they like it, they can develop much faster and with better quality than through the regular education system," he said. Damir Brcic, head of Digital Dalmatia. "Today, after eight generations, it is clear that we have succeeded, the number of participants and their the results speak for themselves. "
The ninth generation is at the door
While we look back with pride on eight years of visiting schools, it is clear that these experiences give strength and motivation to each new generation. Prefect Blaženko Boban He summed it up best when he said during one of his visits: "Young people are an integral part of this project. In order to have quality work, they need to be provided with both equipment and knowledge. The new computers they receive are not just a gift, but investment in the futureI am convinced that these students will be the ones to create companies and develop the IT sector in our county."
Now, with applications open for the ninth generation, new kids will have the opportunity to step into the world of programming. Perhaps among them will be those who will one day continue the tradition, both as mentors and as founders of future technology companies.
EDIT CodeSchool continues its journey, Applications are open until September 19th., and old experiences and photos from numerous school visits remind us of the most important thing: each new generation is built on the foundations of the previous one, and Digital Dalmatia grows together with its young developers.
