The vast majority of women still take family pensions
The average age of a new retiree is 62 years and 11 months. Interestingly, there are older women among the new retirees, although they are legally allowed to work for shorter periods. The average age of a new female retiree is 63 years and three months, and that of a male retiree is 62 and seven months. Although they retire younger, men have accumulated more years of service, 34 and a half years, while women have an average of one year and three months less. The average length of service of new retirees is almost 34 years.
Early retirement was chosen equally by men and women, around 1.300 for each of these two categories. Unfortunately, the old-age pension is chosen predominantly by men, around 7.100 compared to around 4.700 women. There are also more male beneficiaries pension for long-term insured persons, about 2.600 compared to 1.400 women. This institute allows retirement at the age of 60 (with 41 years of service), which explains why on average new men in retirement are younger.
The vast majority of women continue to take family pensions. In the first half of this year, 3.132 of them did so, compared to only 491 men. More women, on the other hand, take disability pensions, around 640 men compared to around 420 women.
Old-age pensioners worked for more than 36 and a half years
Without payments under international agreements, the number of new retirees decreased to 18.368 in the first half of this year. On the other hand, their average pension is growing and rising to 624 euros. The average length of service of new retirees, without beneficiaries under international agreements, is rising to 34 years and nine months, and for men to as much as 35 years and eight months, which means that Croatians are working longer and longer, but that breaks in their work experience are becoming less frequent. Old-age retirees, on the other hand, have worked on average as much as 36 years and seven months.
There are more new retirees in the first six months of this year than in the same period in 2024, when there were 22.298. A year earlier, there were even fewer, 18.417 for the first half of 2023, while in 2022 there were more than today, 25.046 compared to a total of 23.317 in the first six months of this year.
