Split Mayor Tomislav Šuta is demanding that the Moby Drea ship, which has not yet left the Split shipyard, and whose owners have been given another 15 days by the Ministry, leave Croatian territorial waters as soon as possible, while protesters from the Healthy City initiative are announcing a new protest for Wednesday.
The Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure granted the ship's owner an additional 15 days yesterday to leave the shipyard, i.e. the territorial waters of Croatia.
He added that according to information from the competent ministry, the situation is under control, that there is no danger to citizens, but that the City will insist on transparency and accountability of all those involved.
The Healthy City civic initiative has announced a new protest that will take place on Wednesday at 19 p.m. at Prokurative, with the message that "Split must not become a landfill for hazardous substances."
Blaž Limić, one of the organizers of the initiative, said that citizens will not retreat until the ship leaves the Split area. "In just 15 days, we have organized three protests and now we are announcing another one. We will not allow Split to become a dumping ground for hazardous substances from Europe and the world. The problem is serious and is not being addressed properly. Profit must not be above the health of the community. We will not stop until the ship leaves," he said.
Limić praised the cooperation with the police, confirmed that they had all the permits for the announced rally, and added that the Mayor had supported the previous protest.
