I came to Serbia to visit a friend, we were not at the protest as stated. They checked my ID there, on a side street, a Croat who was deported from Serbia on charges of attacking the gendarmerie at the protest, tells 24sata N1.
I was not returned to Croatia, I was deported and falsely accused, he told 24sata BH (23) after spending the night in prison in Serbia. Ivica Dacic, the Serbian Interior Minister said that 37 people were arrested during the riots in Serbia, including one Croatian citizen.
Among those arrested is a Croatian citizen who attacked the Serbian gendarmerie. What does he have to do with attacking our police here? So much for the fact that these protests have nothing to do with a foreign factor. Anyone who attacked the police will be held accountable - Dačić said. After that, the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement, saying that the Croat had been fined and banned from entering Serbia for a year. After returning from Serbia, the young Croat told what happened in Belgrade, according to his perception.
"I came to Serbia to visit a friend, we were not at the protest as stated. They checked my ID there, on a side street, I repeat, I was not at the protest, nor did I chant or anything like that. They saw my Croatian documents and took me to the station with the others from Serbia who were there," he began.
Attached indictment
"I was taken to court in the morning where they accused me of shooting at the gendarmerie, of participating in a protest, of being impudent and rude, of throwing tear gas, fireworks and various other objects at them. I was not injured at all, if I had done what they said I would probably have been injured. In court, they insinuated that if I didn't admit it, I would face worse than a fine. I was fined 41.000 dinars, which is about 400 euros. Since they told me that if I didn't admit it, there would be more serious consequences, I accepted the fine in that situation, and I paid it," the young Croat added.
He states that the decision he received from the court states that he was accused of attacking the gendarmerie.
"I was deported immediately to Croatia. I was in custody, they didn't beat me, but it was psychologically difficult," BH concludes, adding that he will appeal the Serbian court's decision.
