Thursday brought a continuation of the heat throughout the country, and the highest daily air temperatures in Dalmatia were high and mostly ranged from 32 to 38 degrees Celsius. While clear weather prevailed for most of the day in most areas, in the late afternoon in parts of Dalmatia there was a strong development of clouds, it says Dalmacija danas.
After 18 p.m., a strong thunderstorm developed in the area from Mosor to Kamešnica, with rain, showers, thunder, and in some places hail. After 18 p.m., the strongest storm hit the area from Sinj to Solin and the western part of Mosor. Unfortunately, this is an area that many pilgrims are currently passing through on their way to Sinj.
According to data from the Pljusak.com station network, 10 to 15 liters of rain per square meter fell from Sonje to Šestanovac by 18 p.m., and the precipitation has only just begun in the Split and Solin areas.
In the Podstrana area, a lightning strike in Perun caused a fire, but fortunately the rain quickly extinguished it. In Žrnovnica, wind gusts of up to 100 km/h were recorded at the time of the storm, and some broken branches fell on roads.
Areas affected by the storm have seen a sharp drop in air temperatures. For example, in Dubrava the temperature dropped from 31 to 19, and a drop of as much as 15 degrees in a short time was recorded in Cista Velika. There the temperature dropped from 32 to 17 degrees.
This is the second day in a row that a thunderstorm has hit the Sinj area. Yesterday, about 40 mm of rain fell, today slightly less, but since the beginning of the month, the city has received 70 liters of rain per square meter, significantly more than the average for August.
The good news is that no storms are expected on Friday, the feast of the Assumption, and the festivities related to the holiday will go off without any problems with the weather (or bad conditions). It will be stable on Saturday, and new showers are expected on Sunday, when a moderate to strong bora will blow.
More stable and gradually decreasing heat
The heat will follow us until the end of the week and at the very beginning of next week, and then, as is increasingly certain, it will gradually ease. A more noticeable change in the weather is possible at the end of next week.
