The Association of Veterans of Croatian Guard Units, the Association of Special Police from the Homeland War and the Director of the Croatian Memorial and Documentation Center of the Homeland War (HMDCDR) Ante Nazor they looked back yesterday to the fans' parade in Knin, saying that they were 'sad' that the parade was not led by the Croatian flag or the insignia of the 4th and 7th Guards Brigades and other units that participated in the liberation of Knin. Instead, they noted that the flag was at the head HOS, whose role in the Homeland War is considered exaggerated.
They also condemned the rise of the right and the glorification of totalitarian regimes.
Now the HOS itself has spoken out.
"I am not in the least surprised by the attitude of our comrades, I have been warning for a long time about what will happen, that both the left and the ultra-right will start to "feed" on our legitimate greeting, using it for daily political purposes. I have often said that the HOS flags and some insignia are being misused, and I have talked about this with my comrades from my and other units, and that this will create a problem for us. because it will turn out that the only one who participated in the Homeland War was the HOS', he said for Vecernji list Borislav Barisic, president of the Federation of Croatian Army Associations.
He added that they had already tried to protect the symbols of HOS, so that no one could print T-shirts and the like.
'My comrades from the Guard and Special Police were probably fed up because people who weren't in the HOS, people who weren't even born when we were at war are waving HOS flags and raising their right hands, which we didn't raise even in 1991. We had the emblem as it was, and it bothered our enemies the most at that time when we didn't have weapons, we could at least try to create some kind of psychosis among the Chetniks and others. I am not in favor of people who have no connection to the HOS propagating, promoting, and abusing our insignia for their own personal gain or out of some revolt, nor am I in favor of this salute being shouted in stadiums.', concluded Borislav Barišić.
