The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) conducted a total of ten operations across Croatia last weekend, in which 17 people were rescued, including eight children, but three searches ended tragically, two of them today, the HGSS reported on Tuesday evening.
The operations covered hills, mountains, rivers and the sea. Two people were found in the Čikola Canyon, a mother with three children was rescued in the Krupa Canyon near Golubić, a family of five in the Nova Pošta Bay on Pag, a young woman on a SUP board near Lukov Šugarj, as well as two women with two children in the forest near Miholjsko and Prisjeka (Vojnić).
Rescuers, search teams with dogs, and water rescue teams participated in the operations using drones with thermal cameras, vessels, off-road vehicles, and medical equipment.
Everything was carried out in coordination with the 112 center and the police, emergency medical services, firefighters and port authorities.
"Our actions are not always the result of human irresponsibility, they are often due to unfortunate circumstances," said HGSS Deputy Chief Grgo Puljas.
The HGSS appealed to citizens to check the forecast, bring enough water, charge their phones, and let them know where they are going.
As soon as they realize there is a problem, they should call 112 because calling early saves time and lives, the HGSS said.
They remind us that HGSS has been operating 24/0, 365 days a year for 75 years.
