After being postponed due to heavy rain last Sunday, the 310th Sinjska alka will be held this afternoon. 17 alkar kopljanika will compete for the prestigious title of champion. Watch the broadcast live on HRT's Second Channel from 4:30 p.m.
HRT reporter Regina Zubanovic reported from Sinj that everything is ready for today's 310th Sinjska Alka, despite the challenges brought to the organizers by the bad weather last week. Preparations were intensive - from arranging the racecourse to repairing traditional costumes, and everyone involved did their best to ensure that the knightly competition went flawlessly.
Racetrack in full shape
A special challenge was the racetrack, which required thorough repair after heavy rain. The ground first had to dry out, and then the soil on the damaged areas was replaced and mixed to create a uniform surface. An interesting detail is that the soil on the racetrack contains one fifth of the soil from Vukovar, writes HRT.
Although there will be no traditional reception at the Alkarskie Dvori today, the Alkars are gathering there, and the Duke will hold a review before going to the racecourse together.
There is a festive atmosphere in Sinj, because along with the Alka Days, the Pilgrimage on the eve of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary has also begun. The streets are packed with pilgrims and visitors, and around 5.000 spectators are expected at the event itself. The Alka Days and the Assumption of the Virgin Mary are traditionally the most important and festive days for Sinj and the entire Cetina Region.
