The President of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, emphasized on Monday, at the Ceremonial Academy on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Military-Police Operation (VRO) Storm, that Croatia could not achieve freedom peacefully but had to defend its freedom in the Homeland War.
"We should remember that Croatia lived in a Yugoslav communist totalitarian system, and all those who hope that we can return to that era should abandon those ideas and accept the reality that Croatia is a sovereign state, which will develop as the Croatian people want," said Jandroković.
At the ceremonial academy, by decision of the Minister of Croatian Veterans' Affairs, Tomo Medved, veterans' certificates of appreciation were awarded to all units of the Split Military District and all units on the southern front that participated in VRO Storm.
Medved repeatedly reiterated that the Croatian Army, police and HVO participated together in the operation in the Split Military District and the southern front. "Croatian forces achieved a military victory and prevented a major catastrophe in the Bihac area," Medved emphasized.
He pointed out that Operation Storm shattered the project of the "Serbian world", which now appears in "some traces", and that the Split military area and the southern front were of exceptional importance in this.
