During construction work at the Širina location in Solin, where DIV Group is carrying out road reconstruction and bridge construction, asbestos pipes, remains of former utility infrastructure, were unexpectedly discovered during excavation of the terrain, DIV Group reported on Monday.
According to them, it is about material whose presence was not known or recorded in the project documentation, but despite this, the situation was resolved "quickly, professionally and fully in accordance with legal obligations and environmental protection regulations".
The procedure was carried out in cooperation with authorized services, using specialized equipment and applying all occupational and environmental protection measures prescribed for handling asbestos.
"Such action, although legally mandatory, is still not common practice on many construction sites in Croatia, where asbestos pipes are often removed without supervision, records, or protective measures," warns the DIV Group.
They emphasize that with this example they wanted to set themselves as a positive example of a responsible and professional approach to protecting the health of workers, citizens, and the environment.
"Our goal is to show that in Croatia, as elsewhere in the developed world, unforeseen problems can and should be resolved professionally, civilly, and in the interest of the community," the company said, announcing that all relevant photographs and documentation regarding the case will be made publicly available as an example of good practice.
