"The most important thing is that we have identified the causative agent of the disease, which allows us to act precisely. We do not rule out other infectious causes because we are still waiting for toxicological findings, so we are approaching it as seriously as possible," said Vlajčić.
He added that citizens and visitors to Sinj, Knin, Vrlika and other areas can rest assured. "Everyone can enjoy the events in a relaxed manner, in accordance with the recommendations of epidemiologists. The Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ) has issued all the necessary instructions, there is no reason for concern," he said.
He said that all recommendations from the Croatian Institute of Public Health are clear and that the events are taking place without any health risks. Vaccination against anthrax, he said, is being carried out without any disruption. So far, over 15 head of cattle have been vaccinated, and it is estimated that there are around 40 in total.
"We also held a constructive meeting with livestock farmers in the office of the mayor of Vrlika. I believe that together, with a cool head and a responsible approach, we will successfully overcome this situation," the minister added.
Since the beginning of the year, Vlajčić says, around 3 animals have been euthanized, but in the case of anthrax, this is not a measure, the livestock die from the disease itself. He confirmed that 141 samples have been received so far, and the data is being updated daily.
