Former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader will probably be released from prison in Lipovica, where he is serving an 18-year sentence, next week, as the Sisak County Court has learned that the decision on his conditional release will not be written on Friday.
On Thursday, the Sisak County Court accepted Sanader's request for parole, after he spent a total of more than ten years in prison.
In Croatia, parole is available after serving half of the sentence, and usually after serving two-thirds of the sentence. However, each case is individual and there are many circumstances that influence the approval of a request for release.
Sanader can be released from prison when he receives a signed court decision. He and his lawyer Dragan Crnković were expecting the decision today, as the State Attorney's Office did not object to the court's decision to release him on parole.
