After 2027, non-refundable European funds for affordable housing will be available, said MEP Nikolina Brnjac in Split on Monday, announcing an international conference on affordable housing to be held in Zagreb in September.
A conference on affordable housing will be held in Zagreb on September 26, attended by relevant officials from the European Commission, the Croatian Government, representatives of the European Investment Bank, and experts in affordable housing, announced Brnjac, pointing out that in the future EU envelope, grants for affordable housing will be available to cities after 2027.
"The conference will bring together the European, national and local levels to consider the most appropriate models for affordable housing," said Brnjac after a meeting with Split Mayor Tomislav Šuta, where they discussed the possibilities and models of affordable housing.
Brnjac and Šuta said that affordable housing is one of the key priorities in Split and in Croatia.
"Affordable housing is also important for demographic reasons because it keeps young people in Croatia, and it also needs to be developed in rural areas," said Brnjac.
According to her, the European Union's urban development fund currently has 172 million euros for affordable housing, and Split will apply to that fund to obtain grants for affordable housing in that city.
Mayor Šuta said that preparations for the start of affordable housing construction in Split should be completed in the next 2,5 years. He also pointed out that the Government is preparing a legislative framework that will relate to affordable housing construction.
