After Emmanuel Macron announced that France would recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in New York in September, the Croatian Government issued a statement, saying that this announcement, as well as similar moves by European countries, confirm that the need to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is an increasingly urgent topic of international relations, writes HRT.
The Government emphasizes that the suffering of the civilian population in the Gaza Strip is unacceptable, and that it is important to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches all vulnerable civilians, especially women and children.

"Croatia is closely following all relevant international initiatives, including the announcement by French President Emmanuel Macron about the possible recognition of Palestine. This announcement, as well as similar moves by certain European countries, confirm that the need for a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is an increasingly urgent and omnipresent topic of international relations.
The Republic of Croatia clearly and consistently supports the achievement of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East. Our foreign policy position is based on the principles of international law, humanity and regional stability.
The suffering of the civilian population in the Gaza Strip is unacceptable, and it is particularly important to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches all vulnerable civilians, especially women and children.
We believe that the only sustainable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one that involves the establishment of two states - Israel and Palestine - that would exist side by side, in peace, security and mutual recognition. That solution must come through dialogue, negotiations and with the strong support of the international community.
The question of the recognition of Palestine is an important political issue for every country, and it would be best if a decision on it was made in a coordinated manner within the European Union and the wider international community.
Croatia is ready to contribute constructively to these efforts, in accordance with its international obligations and responsibility towards preserving peace."
