On the eve of July 11, the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Srebrenica Genocide, the traditional "8372 March" was held in Split last night. This commemorative event, which has been held for the thirteenth year in a row and is organized by Bosniak associations in the city of Split and the Split-Dalmatia County, brought together numerous citizens, representatives of institutions and members of the Bosniak community, writes Split.
On behalf of the City of Split, Deputy Mayor Ivo Bilić attended the parade, expressing support and sympathy for the victims and their families. A special moment was marked by the symbolic laying of white roses into the sea - an act that traditionally accompanies this event as a strong message of peace, remembrance and respect for the victims.
Kadro Kulašin, president of the Parliament of Bosniak Associations of Croatia (SABAH), gave a speech on the occasion, who reminded of the importance of preserving collective memory and the fight against the denial of crimes.
July 11, 2025 marks exactly 30 years since the Srebrenica genocide, when members of the Bosnian Serb army and police killed more than eight thousand Bosniak men and boys after the fall of the protected enclave of Srebrenica, then under the auspices of the United Nations.
It is important to point out that last year the United Nations General Assembly declared July 11th the official International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Srebrenica Genocide, thereby confirming the verdicts of international courts and once again emphasizing the importance of truth and justice.
The "8372 March" in Split, as well as numerous other events across Europe, are part of a broader effort to preserve the memory of the worst crime in Europe since World War II.
