After the severe storm that hit Split and the surrounding areas on Tuesday, Mayor Tomislav Šuta addressed the public at a press conference, providing the latest information on the current situation, activities carried out and plans for damage repair, writes Split.
"Teams from Parks and plantations immediately got involved. We expect that the rehabilitation will take a little less than ten days, but we will do everything to further shorten that period," said the mayor. He added that Hrvatske šume got involved in the restoration of Marjan Forest Park, and help also arrived from Zagreb - part of their team is already directed towards Marjan.
As for the municipal infrastructure, the situation has stabilized. "The water supply and sewage system no longer have problems with drainage, the manholes are being cleaned intensively," said Šuta. He particularly praised the work of the Split Public Fire Department, which - together with other services - responded quickly and efficiently.
According to the Croatian Fire Service, more than 300 technical interventions have been recorded in the Split area, and the 112 center has received around 500 calls from citizens. Currently, more than 30 firefighters are working on the ground, removing broken branches and metal sheets that have fallen from the roofs of buildings.
Speaking about the possibility of declaring a natural disaster, the mayor pointed out that the legally prescribed threshold of 25 million euros is in place, but that according to currently available data, Split does not meet the conditions for such a decision.
One of the most sensitive areas is the Poljud stadium. "There is a great danger related to the use of the stadium. The state has offered assistance, and today I will meet with the president of the Hajduk board to determine the next steps," said Šuta, announcing additional information after the meeting.
Positive news comes from KBC Split – two people who were injured during the storm are in stable condition and out of danger.
The City of Split continues to work intensively to eliminate the consequences, with the full support of all services and institutions, and Mayor Tomislav Šuta thanked citizens for their patience and understanding.
