Croatia has begun evacuating its citizens from Iran, and their safety as well as the safety of diplomatic staff is the absolute priority, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman announced on Saturday at X.
Israel attacked Iran last Friday, claiming that its longtime enemy is on the verge of developing nuclear weapons. Iran, which claims its nuclear program is purely for peaceful purposes, has retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israel.
"The evacuation of Croatian citizens from Iran is underway," Grlić Radman announced. "In close coordination with EU member states, we are doing everything we can to protect our people," he added.
The minister stated that he and the ministry are "in constant, round-the-clock contact" with the Croatian embassy in Tehran and other embassies in the Middle East.
"The situation is unpredictable, and the safety of our citizens, as well as embassy employees, is our absolute priority," Grlić Radman emphasized.
He added that the Croatian consul has already been evacuated from Israel, and the embassy in Tel Aviv "is now operating with necessary personnel."
The number of diplomats in Iran has also been reduced to the necessary minimum."
