Today, the Park of Life of the Split Hospital was officially opened. It is a space that connects the maternity ward and oncology and was handed over to all visitors, hospital employees and citizens through an emotional ceremony. The once neglected space was transformed into a green oasis in synergy with the County League Against Cancer - Split and the Split Clinical Hospital with the help of donations that have been and continue to be received for its maintenance from all over Croatia and beyond.
The opening ceremony began with a song by the Doctors' Choir, which introduced several hundred attendees to the opening ceremony of the Park of Life.
The first to address the crowd Prof. Dr. Sc. Marko Dražen Mimica, Prim. Dr. Med., head of the Clinic for Women's Diseases and Childbirth.
- In a highly technological world, we need spaces of silence and contemplation. I thank everyone who made it happen, and I hope that we will use and preserve it together - Mimica said.
The Park of Life connects the place where life is born and the place where many bravely fight for life.
Next, in front of the Clinic for Oncology and Radiotherapy and the County League against Cancer - Split, he spoke to the crowd Prof. Dr. Eduard Vrdoljak Dr. med., head of the Clinic for Oncology and Radiotherapy and president of the County League against Cancer - Split.
- The Park of Life was created as a symbol of togetherness, hope and struggle - a place between birth and survival. I thank everyone who has woven their golden thread into this project - with their heart, knowledge and kindness. This is a space where children will paint and witness new life, and patients will find peace and strength - Vrdoljak thanked everyone.
The last one, on behalf of the entire KBC Split, addressed the gathering. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Krešimir Dolić, Dr. Med., director of KBC Split.
- The Park of Life is the event of the year for our KBC – a space for rest, peace and strength. The olive tree symbolizes eternity, health and victory – may this spirit inspire everyone who comes here. We are all responsible for the quality of our hospital, and this park is a step towards its betterment - said Dolić.
After speeches by those most responsible for the construction of the Park of Life, an extremely emotional moment followed in which the park was opened by newborn babies, and white doves were released as a symbol of life. The opening continued with a song "Dalmatia's history is intoxicating" performed by Tedi Spalat. In the end, everyone gathered filled the park to the last seat and became part of a photograph for eternity.
The Park of Life is much more than a physical space, as it serves as a roadmap for building the kind of hospital that patients and employees deserve. The Park provides a place of comfort for those experiencing difficult times, and a place of delight for those experiencing moments of greatest joy.
