On the occasion of the celebration of University Day and the 51st anniversary of its founding, a ceremonial session of the Senate of the University of Split was held on Thursday at the Mediterranean Institute for Life Research, at which honorary degrees were awarded.
Meritorious professors were awarded letters of appreciation and plaques from the University of Split, Vjekoslav Krželj was awarded the honorary title of professor emeritus, and County Prefect Blaženko Boban was awarded a charter.
Minister of Science, Education and Youth Radovan Fuchs expressed his satisfaction that the university is achieving better results every year. He highlighted the wide international cooperation and the launch of around a hundred research projects, which contributes to the visibility and international recognition of the University of Split.
They are happy that the study programs and scientific research are focused on the Mediterranean, the sea, botany and zoology, and when it comes to science, this does not diminish the successes of all other components. The social role of the university is recognized not only in Split and the region, but also beyond, says Fuchs.
"There are 18.500 students, and intensive work is also being done to attract foreign students. There are a total of 219 student programs, soon 220 for the speech therapy study program, which has been expected for a long time," said the minister.
Regarding the strike of the school unions, Fuchs said that he is glad that the unions have signed the agreement and are now waiting for the declaration of membership. The main concern of the ministry is the graduation ceremony and the well-being of the children, they hope that there will be no strike, and if it does happen, they have prepared everything so that the children do not suffer.
The Rector of the University of Split, Dragan Ljutić, recalled that they had recently signed a contract to build a sports center within the university and that they had agreements to build a new student dormitory on the campus.
