The number of people killed in a shooting at a high school in Graz on Tuesday has risen to nine, the Kronen Zeitung daily reported without citing sources, while the Austrian Interior Ministry confirmed that there were "several dead and injured."
According to the Kronen Zeitung, which cites a witness who was at the school at the time of the shooting, the perpetrator opened random fire in two classes at the high school shortly before 10 a.m.
As confirmed by the police, the perpetrator was found dead in the school toilet. It is said that he was a student at the same school.
The school, located near Graz's main train station, has meanwhile been surrounded by members of the Cobra police special unit, and helicopters are circling above this part of the city.
Injured students are being given first aid in a nearby gym.
Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Kerner has canceled all activities and is on his way to Graz, the capital of the Austrian federal state of Styria.
