
A Ukrainian drone attack targeting Moscow forced the closure of two key airports serving the capital, Russian authorities said early Sunday.
Russian air defense units destroyed nine Ukrainian drones heading towards Moscow by 4 a.m., Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced via the Telegram messaging app.
Emergency services were dispatched to the site where the drone's remains fell in the overnight attack, he added. He did not report any immediate damage.
A Ukrainian drone strike also caused a brief fire at the Azot chemical plant in Tula Oblast, injuring two people, and destroying seven drones over Kaluga Oblast, regional governors said. Both regions border Moscow Oblast to the south of the capital.
The Russian Civil Aviation Administration Rosaviatsia announced on Telegram that, in order to ensure air traffic safety, it is suspending flights at Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports.
