Given that traffic at sea is intensifying every day and the number of vessels and participants in maritime traffic is increasing, police officers, in addition to the tasks of the maritime police related to state border surveillance, are also monitoring whether participants in maritime traffic comply with the laws, especially those related to navigation safety. Yesterday, during the day, they sanctioned 14 violations at sea, six of which were violations of the so-called "planing".
In the waters off Split and Milna on the island of Brač, they sanctioned persons who were operating a boat at a distance of less than 300 meters and all were fined. At around 1:45 p.m. at sea in the waters off Milna, they dealt with a foreign citizen who was "planing" at a distance of less than 300 meters from the coast, and he did not even have a license to operate a boat. It was also determined that another foreign citizen had given him the boat to operate and that the fee for navigation safety and environmental protection had not been paid for the vessel, for which he was also sanctioned for a misdemeanor.
Once again, we point out the obligation to respect the restrictions and distances, especially in order to protect swimmers. While enjoying a ride at sea, please be considerate and respectful of other participants in maritime traffic. The Ordinance on the Safety of Maritime Navigation in Inland Waters and the Territorial Sea of the Republic of Croatia, and the Method and Conditions for Performing Supervision and Management of Maritime Traffic, and the Ordinance on Amendments and Supplements stipulate that motorboats and jet-powered boats (scooters, jet skis, hovercraft, etc.) may sail with hydrodynamic buoyancy, i.e. planing only at a distance greater than 300 meters from the coast and in an area where planing is not prohibited.
When operating speedboats, scooters and similar jet-powered boats, it is imperative that you adhere to the regulations and rules of conduct at sea, especially the prescribed distance from the shore, in order to avoid the possibility of accidents and personal injury, the police say.
Police officers will continue to conduct surveillance at sea throughout the summer.
