In addition to their duties of protecting the border at sea, police officers from the Split Maritime Police Station control participants in maritime traffic on a daily basis to ensure a good state of safety in this segment of traffic.
The good weather increases the intensity of traffic at sea every day, and in order to reduce the possibility of maritime accidents and casualties, it is important that participants in maritime traffic respect the laws and maritime rules. In the past seven days, 70 different violations have been sanctioned, mostly from the Maritime Act, of which eight were for driving a vessel at a distance of less than 300 meters from the coast, which endangers the safety of persons. The perpetrators were fined 400 euros.
The Ordinance on the Safety of Maritime Navigation in Inland Waters and the Territorial Sea of the Republic of Croatia, and the Manner and Conditions for Performing Supervision and Management of Maritime Traffic, and the Ordinance on Amendments and Supplements stipulate that motorboats and jet-powered boats (scooters, jet skis, hovercraft, etc.) may navigate with hydrodynamic buoyancy, i.e. planing only at a distance greater than 300 meters from the coast and in an area where planing is not prohibited.
When operating speedboats, scooters and similar jet-powered boats, be sure to follow the regulations and rules of conduct at sea, especially the prescribed distance from the shore, in order to avoid the possibility of accidents and personal injury.
Other maritime violations sanctioned during the week include anchoring in a prohibited area, transhipment, and failure to possess the necessary documents.
In addition to other maritime police duties, police officers will conduct controls to ensure the safety of all participants in maritime traffic.
