US President Donald Trump, in an interview broadcast on NBC television on Sunday, said that he "does not intend to seek" a third presidential term, but that after four years in the White House he intends to hand over the reins to a "great Republican", writes N1.
He is not running for a third term.
When asked by a journalist about the possibility of a third term, he replied that he "does not want to do that." It is well known that the American Constitution does not allow for that.
"I want to have four very good years and hand over the reins to someone else, ideally a great Republican," he replied, although after returning to the White House he repeatedly alluded to the possibility of a third presidential term.
Trump has named his Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as potential successors.
When asked by a reporter whether he thought he should respect the American Constitution, he said he "don't know."
"I have great lawyers working for me and they will obviously follow what the Supreme Court says," he added, however.
He gave the same answer to the question of whether foreigners on American soil should be guaranteed a fair trial, as provided for by the Constitution.
"I'm not a lawyer. I don't know," he replied.
Donald Trump has made the fight against illegal immigration a top priority, speaking of an "invasion" of "criminals from abroad" and organizing police operations.
But judges have blocked several of his decisions. Federal courts and appeals courts, as well as the Supreme Court, have already temporarily blocked the application of the 1798 “enemy alien” law, which was previously used only in wartime and was repurposed by the Trump administration, on the grounds that deportees should be able to exercise their rights. The court decisions have angered Republicans who say it is “impossible that there will be trials for millions and millions” of immigrants.
I've been investigated more than Al Capone.
Trump, who was convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records related to concealing payments to porn star Stormy Daniels, also said he was under investigation more than Al Capone, a "terrible criminal."
