Since the intensity of road traffic increases significantly during the May Day holiday due to the arrival of our citizens who are temporarily working in other countries, foreign citizens who will spend the extended weekend in the Republic of Croatia, as well as transit traffic of foreign citizens, the police expect the heaviest traffic on the A1 (Zagreb-Split), A3 (Bregana-Zagreb-Lipovac), A6 (Bosiljevo-Rijeka), A2 (Zagreb-Macelj), A4 (Zagreb-Goričan), A7 (Rijeka-Rupa) and on the D1 state road (Karlovac-Slunj-Gračac-Knin-Split).
As the number of traffic accidents and the number of casualties are increasing due to increased traffic on the roads, the Ministry of the Interior (MUP) will pay special attention to the state of road traffic safety and undertake a series of preventive and repressive activities.
The MUP will include the maximum available number of police officers in the implementation of the planned activities, and the organization of work and the direction of the service will be planned in such a way as to cover all traffic routes that are statistically identified as endangered.
At the same time, all available devices and equipment for traffic surveillance and control will be put into maximum use, the Ministry of Interior emphasizes.
Although the activity of the traffic police is only one of the factors that can influence the reduction of the number of traffic accidents and their consequences, and that adequate road safety cannot be achieved solely and solely by taking police measures, the Ministry of the Interior warns all road users to comply with traffic regulations.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs specifically appeals to drivers to check the condition of the vehicle, the condition of the tires and the possession of the appropriate equipment before setting off, as well as to inform themselves in good time about the weather conditions and the condition of the roads before the trip.
Ministry of Interior: Take a break from driving regardless of proximity to your destination
Also, the police advises drivers to start their journey rested and to stop and rest regardless of the proximity to their destination, as well as to fasten their seat belts and take care of the prescribed placement of children in the vehicle. In addition, drivers are advised to adjust their speed to the road conditions and visibility conditions and respect speed limits.
Furthermore, drivers are advised not to consume alcoholic beverages before and while driving and, regardless of the rush, not to engage in risky overtaking. It is also advised to increase the distance between vehicles when driving in convoys, as well as to avoid sudden braking, acceleration and turning the steering wheel during adverse weather conditions.
As good weather is expected in the coming period, the police have urged motorcycle and moped drivers not to overestimate their own and their vehicles' capabilities, and not to underestimate the dangers that await them in traffic. All other drivers are advised to pay attention to motorcyclists and their increased participation in traffic.
The police are particularly urging motorcycle and moped riders to clean their helmet visors and tighten them properly before riding, as well as to use other protective equipment. It is also recommended that they wear lighter clothing and helmets in 'vibrant' colors or with reflective details.
It is also advisable to respect the speed limit, adjust your speed to road conditions, check your tire pressure and use low beam headlights during daytime driving, but also to avoid alcohol and drugs while driving, as well as driving in the middle of the traffic lane.
In addition, it is recommended to take extra care when leaning into a curve, avoid slalom driving between vehicles, and drive on parts of the asphalt that have sand and oil on them, especially in curves. It is also advised to control one's own behavior and passion for driving, and lovers of two-wheeled driving are advised not to test the capabilities of their vehicles.
Furthermore, motorcycle and moped drivers are advised to anticipate the moves of other drivers, as well as to ride at a sufficient distance from the vehicle in front of them, and to take other measures to be safe in traffic.
