Interior Minister Davor Božinović said that the identity of the person whose body was found on Monday near Solin has been established and that three men connected to the incident have been detained.
"The three men were detained primarily on the basis of the fact that a large quantity of drugs intended for further resale was found in their possession," said Božinović, pointing out that the police deal with even the most complicated cases persistently and efficiently.
Split police reported on Monday evening that a dead body was found above Rupotina near Solin and that a violent death is suspected. The police said they were conducting a criminal investigation and that the body had been transported to the Pathology Department of Split Hospital for an autopsy.
According to media reports, the body was set on fire and the victim was found by schoolchildren who called the police. It is assumed that the victim was set on fire with the intention of making the identification process more difficult, and most likely to destroy traces of the crime.
Slobodna Dalmacija writes that the victim is a 45-year-old man from Split, a long-time heroin addict who was well known to the officers of the Narcotics Service of the Split-Dalmatia Police.
A tattoo on the part of his face that was not burned off allegedly played a key role in his identification, as did the keys found next to the body, which matched the front door of his apartment. The newspaper also states that ID and his 19-year-old nephew, as well as MG, nicknamed Brzi, were arrested in a well-prepared police operation.
