Prime Minister Andrej Plenković confirmed to reporters in Parliament on Wednesday that he will attend the funeral of Pope Francis on Saturday.
Arriving at the parliamentary current affairs morning, Plenković told reporters that he would attend the funeral of the Pope, who died on Easter Monday, on Saturday. "I'm going, I'm going," he briefly replied to a journalist's question about whether he had decided to go to the funeral, considering that he had expressed his desire to go the day before in Jasenovac.
The Pope's funeral will also be attended by the President of the Republic, Zoran Milanović.
The arrival of the head of the Catholic Church has already been announced by a number of world leaders, from US President Donald Trump, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Argentine President Javier Milei, to French President Emmanuel Macron, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
Pope Francis' funeral will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican, and he will be buried, according to his wishes, in the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome.
The government declared Saturday a day of mourning in Croatia.
