The condition of two football players seriously injured in a serious traffic accident on the Turanjska bypass, in which football player Nikola Pokrivač died, is stable, but still very serious, doctors from hospitals in Zagreb and Karlovac told the media on Sunday.
The football player who was transported by helicopter to the Dubrava Clinical Hospital yesterday underwent heart surgery, while the other injured person remains in the intensive care unit in Karlovac.
"The 27-year-old remains in the intensive care unit at the Karlovac hospital. His condition remains critical, his life is at risk. However, he is currently stable," said traumatology specialist Juraj Katušin from the Karlovac General Hospital. He added that the injured man has life-threatening injuries to multiple systems.
Surgeon Josip Varvodić from Dubrava Clinical Hospital said about the condition of the second injured football player that the membrane around his heart muscle, or rather his entire heart, was damaged and part of the interior of the heart muscle in the right atrium was also damaged. He also said that he tolerated the procedure very well and recovered well in the intensive care unit.
"Everything went great and we hope for a successful recovery," he added.
