The residents of Drvenik oppose the continued devastation of the Krknjaši Bay, popularly known as the "Blue Lagoon", for many years, and are demanding a decision to declare the Krknjaši Bay a significant landscape. On this occasion, they have launched a petition, and we are publishing their appeal in full.
The undersigned residents, residents, real estate owners and other lovers of the island of Drvenik Veliki and the Krknjaši bay, popularly known as the "Blue Lagoon", oppose the continuation of years of devastation and demand a decision to declare the Krknjaši bay a significant landscape.
For years we have been warning about the problem of anchoring at the Krknjaši Bay location, excessive tourism, party boats, and the devastation of the coast and the underwater world. The area belongs to the Natura 2000 ecological network because it is a protected habitat for Posidonia and Periska (lungs of the sea). As a result of mass tourism, life for the local population in the Krknjaši Bay has become impossible. During the summer period, over 150 sailboats, catamarans, motor boats, excursion boats, and party boats anchor daily, which significantly burdens this very sensitive ecosystem. The number of visitors is around 1500 per day, which is unacceptable given the size of the bay.
For the reasons stated:
• we oppose the legalization of illegal construction in the protected coastal zone;
•We oppose the installation of prefabricated facilities for catering activities on maritime property and agricultural land because the Krknjaša coast is a natural beach and is not equipped with infrastructure;
•We oppose mass tourism.
To protect the environment and preserve natural resources, we suggest:
► introduction of an environmental tax per vessel and passengers,
► limitation of the number of vessels and visitors.
