
At the end of March this year, 90.729 unemployed people were registered in the records of the Croatian Employment Service (CES), which is 16,8 percent or 18.363 fewer than in March last year, according to CES data. HRT.
Compared to February, the number of unemployed people decreased by 5,8 percent or 5.584 people. According to daily data from the Croatian Employment Service, there are currently 86.751 registered unemployed people, and 21.260 job vacancies have been advertised.
During March this year, 10.234 people were newly registered as unemployed, which is two percent more than in March 2024. Of these, 7.321 people or 71,6 percent came from employment. Last month, 249 people from full-time education and 2.664 from inactivity also entered the unemployment register.
According to CES data, 15.818 people left the unemployment register, which is nine percent less than in March last year. Of these, 11.480 people were employed, 10.573 or 92,1 percent of them on the basis of employment contracts and 907 people or 7,9 percent on the basis of other business activities.
The majority of people are employed in catering, processing industry and trade
Recorded employment on the basis of an employment relationship was most often realized in accommodation and food preparation and service - 2.456 persons or 23,2 percent. It is followed by the processing industry with 1.449 persons or 13,7 percent and wholesale and retail trade with 1.294 persons or 12,2 percent.
In March, 4.338 people were removed from the unemployment register for other reasons, such as leaving the workforce (retirement, entry into full-time education), failure to comply with legal provisions (not actively looking for work, unavailable for work), deregistration from the register, etc.
Looking at the counties, employment was led by Split-Dalmatia County (1.857 people or 17,6 percent of the total number of employees through employment contracts), Osijek-Baranja County (1.051 people or 9,9 percent) and the City of Zagreb (962 people or 9,1 percent).
The highest absolute number of registered unemployed persons was recorded in Split-Dalmatia County 15.712 (or 17,3 percent of the total number in Croatia), Osijek-Baranja County (11.914 or 13,1 percent) and the City of Zagreb (10.296 or 11,3 percent), and the lowest in Lika-Senj County (1.156 or 1,3 percent).
In March this year, 23.729 people or 26,2 percent of the total number of unemployed people used cash benefits. The number of cash benefit beneficiaries increased by 9,8 percent or 2.126 people compared to the same month in 2024. In March, 13.018 job vacancies were advertised through the services of the Employment Service, through which the need for 22.931 workers was expressed. The number of workers sought decreased by 5,1 percent compared to the same month last year.
