According to the Income Tax Regulations, young people up to 25 years have the right to 100 percent refund of paid income tax, and they do 30 years have the right to 50 percent refundThis right is exercised by all natural persons who earn income from employment (salary), therefore it does not apply to students who work exclusively on a student contract through the student service because they receive compensation. Who specifically gets a 50 percent tax refund in 2026, and who gets a 100 percent tax refund?
As can be seen from the aforementioned Ordinance, in 2026, a 50 percent tax refund will be given to those born in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999. On the other hand, a 100 percent refund will be given to those born in 2000, 2001, 2002, and younger.
A common question is whether it is necessary to file a separate tax refund application under this regulation for young people. In most cases, it is not, unless, for example, you have a benefit for which the Tax Office does not have data:
– If these persons are not required to file an annual tax return, the right to a refund of tax paid during the tax period on the basis of salary will be determined by the Tax Administration ex officio by a decision in a special procedure for determining annual income tax without the obligation to file Form ZPP-DOH, in order to exercise the right to the aforementioned tax relief. Likewise, if they wish to use the reliefs prescribed by the Act, for which the Tax Administration does not have data, for example on data on dependent children because they are not registered on Form PK or data on donations made on the basis of which the personal deduction can be increased, they are required to file Form ZPP-DOH by February 28, the Tax Administration states.
