The Split City Council on Tuesday adopted the city budget for 2026 in the amount of 403 million euros, with the 16th vote needed for a majority being that of independent councilor Davor Matijević, former president of the Split SDP, writes HRT.
- This is a realistic, developmental and social budget, stated Mayor Tomislav Šuta. Budget funds will finance the purchase of bank receivables for the Spaladium Arena with five million euros, the reconstruction of the Riva, maintenance of green areas, sports infrastructure, affordable housing, entrepreneurship, and road reconstruction.
Od 27 amandmana Šuta je prihvatio njih 18, među kojima i svih pet amandmana Matijevića, koji je potom glasovao za proračun.
Matijević said that he had a good reason to support the budget because his condition that the Government donate the Zagreb Hotel in Duilovo to Split for conversion into a home for the elderly was met, and the value of that property is 50 million euros.
He reiterated that he will be the project manager for the conversion of the hotel into a retirement home and will form a working group to deal with it.
Center councilor Marijana Puljak said that the budget was supported by a "coalition of the worst", which includes, in addition to HDZ, who was convicted of corruption, Željko Kerum, who is currently in custody for a traffic violation, and Matijević, who committed the largest voter fraud in the history of Split.
- This is an option that shares public money among themselves, said Puljak, asserting that in contrast, the option gathered around the Center, which during its mandate implemented the development of Žnjan, initiated the construction of garages and many other projects without a single corruption scandal.
