From March 1, 2027.
On Monday, the Croatian Parliament passed a new Toll Collection Act, which introduces a single electronic toll collection system on the entire motorway network in Croatia from March 1, 2027, and which should significantly improve traffic flow, it writes. N1.
The new system provides for the free flow of vehicles without stopping to pay tolls, allowing them to pass without stopping and at speeds of up to 130 km per hour.
It is based on two technologies – an ETC device in the vehicle and automatic license plate reading via cameras.
The Electronic Toll Collection System (ESNC) will include registration of the license plate and a valid means of payment – mandatory for light vehicles up to 3,5 tonnes. Heavy vehicles will have to use ETC and automatic number plate reading.
Inclusion in the ESNC will be possible through a single national web sales point, mobile application, other digital services and at dedicated fast-tracks. It will also be possible to carry out it at the sales offices of the motorway operators or at other sales points of third parties that have a contract with the toll collection entities.
After the new system is introduced, there will still be toll booths at highway entrances for a while, although there will be no people in them, nor any ramps next to them.
The installation of portals and cameras has begun on the A3 motorway, and a total of 212 portals are planned to be installed on the network operated by Croatian Motorways (HAC) and other concessionaires.
