The fire service, along with the military and police, is an important part of the homeland security system.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Veterans Affairs Tomo Medved stated that the Government had made a visible step forward in the positioning and development of the firefighting system. "The firefighting system, along with the army and the police, is an extremely important part of the homeland security system," emphasized Minister Medved. He assessed that the firefighting system in Croatia is excellently organized, adding that fire protection poses new challenges and the need for new technologies and new tactics. The partner country of this year's international firefighting conference in Vučevica is Germany, which, it was said, has experience in extinguishing fires on electric vehicles. The Chief Firefighter of Croatia, Slavko Tucaković, noted that here in Zagreb, there have been several cases of fires on mobile phones and electric bicycles left on staircases near combustible materials.
Reflecting on this year's firefighting season, Tucaković emphasized that "this year we had a greater number of fires than last year, but the area of the burned area is three times smaller thanks to the rapid interventions and organization of firefighting systems."
