The International Veterans' Conference, organized by the Ministry of Croatian Veterans' Affairs and the Ministry of Veterans' Affairs of Ukraine, was officially opened today at the Le Meridien Lav hotel with addresses by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, and, via video message, by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko.
On behalf of the City of Split, the event was attended by Mayor Tomislav Šuta, and among the guests were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Croatian Veterans' Affairs Tomo Medved, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman, Minister of Labor, Pension System, Family and Social Policy Marin Piletić, Minister of Tourism and Sports Tonči Glavina, County Prefect Blaženko Boban, Minister of Veterans' Affairs of Ukraine Natalia Kalmykova, and numerous other high-ranking officials and guests.
The conference was also an opportunity for Mayor Šuta, on behalf of the City of Split, to hand over four seedlings to the botanical gardens in Kiev and Odesa, Split's friend city, as a symbol of support for the suffering Ukrainian cities. The seedlings were received by the ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in Ukraine, Anica Djamić, who will take them to Ukraine and present them to the mayors of Kyiv and Odesa.

The Mayor of Split also held a working meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, and his associates, at which they discussed the implementation of key projects for Split, with an emphasis on improving the transport infrastructure — including the road exit from the City Port — and resolving the status of the Spaladium Arena. The meeting highlighted the exceptionally good cooperation between the City of Split, the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Split-Dalmatia County.
The two-day conference brought together representatives of Croatian and Ukrainian state institutions, international organizations, experts and stakeholders in the field of veteran care, with the aim of presenting examples of good practice in improving health and social protection, psychological support and social and economic reintegration of war veterans. The International Veterans Conference once again confirmed the close relations and partnership between Croatia and Ukraine, especially in the field of care for veterans and war veterans, emphasizing the importance of solidarity, knowledge exchange and joint action in promoting the dignity and quality of life of those who defended their homeland.
