Former Health Minister Vili Beroš, who was indicted in the "Mikroskopi" corruption scandal on suspicion of receiving a bribe of 75.000 euros, has been hired as a neurosurgeon at the Sestre milosrdnice Hospital, where he worked before joining the Ministry, writes HRT.
A source from the neurosurgery department at Vinogradska confirmed to Hina that Beroš got the job, although the hospital has not yet officially commented.
The competition was announced on July 30th of this year and ended on August 14th. However, the selection of candidates has been delayed until now because the hospital has failed to establish a Committee that would make a decision.
An additional complication was caused by the fact that Beroš had earlier activated the so-called official privilege 6+6, which allowed him to receive six months of full and then another six months of half salary after the termination of his ministerial duties.
His contract was not formally terminated at the hospital, but the Ministry of Justice and Administration recently confirmed that his employment ended by force of law at the moment the benefit was activated, so he had to apply for the vacancy like other candidates.
Despite the difficulties, KBC Sestre milosrdnice managed to form a Committee that held an interview yesterday with three registered candidates, including a former minister.
The entire case is taking place in the shadow of the court proceedings in which Beroš is accused.
Uskoko's indictment charges Beroš that, as Minister of Health, he received 75.000 euros in bribes in a corruption scandal involving the procurement of medical equipment, which allegedly damaged the state budget by 740.000 euros.
The first defendant in the so-called Microscope affair, an entrepreneur Hrvoje Petrač and his sons News i Nikola, as well as a Serbian entrepreneur Saša Pozder They admitted to the Uskok charges at the end of September and, after reaching a settlement with the prosecution, were sentenced to prison and fines.
On the merits of the indictment against Beroš, former director of the Zagreb Children's Hospital Goran Roić, former head of the KBC Neurology Clinic of Sestre Milosrdnica Krešimir Rotim i Tomo Pavić from the Krapina branch of the Croatian Health Insurance Institute, the Zagreb County Court will decide in November.
