Tomislav Debeljak's Shipyard for Special Objects (BSO) has terminated the contract for the construction of three coastal patrol ships for the Ministry of Defense, Brodosplit spokesperson Josip Jurišić confirmed to Hina on Tuesday.
Brodosplit's Board President Tomislav Debeljak stated that all expert assessments conducted in the past period showed the same conclusion - construction costs have unequivocally increased.
"We call on the Ministry of Defense, which refers to the same expert reports, to publish them because as a contractual partner, the fact that the data is ``leaking'' from verified sources puts us in an unfavorable position, and we are obliged to respect the classification of the contract," said Debeljak.
Brodosplit reminds that their request is that, in accordance with the agreement signed at the handover of the ship "Umag," all ships in the series be built without any profit, but also without loss due to increased costs, using the cost calculation method.
The Ministry of Defense did not respect this, even though if accepted, the ships in the series would be significantly cheaper than the market price, Brodosplit claims.
The official website of Brodosplit states that the three remaining ships, which will not be handed over to the Ministry of Defense, were in different, but higher, stages of readiness.
The coastal patrol ship construction project began in December 2014, its total value at the time was 51 million euros, and to date, BSO has delivered two patrol ships to the Ministry of Defense - "Umag" and "Omiš".
The first ship was four years late in delivery, and the second was delivered at the beginning of this year.
