Split-Dalmatia County Prefect Blaženko Boban and Split Mayor Tomislav Šuta presented an initiative on Tuesday under which all high school students from the county will receive 200 euros to purchase textbooks for the new school year.
Boban pointed out that the project is being implemented at the initiative of the City of Split, and the County has also joined in as the founder of the high schools. "It is right that all our high school students receive these funds. We are talking about almost 17.500 students, of which around 11 thousand are outside the Split area," he said.
He added that the County already allocates the most funds to help children in the education system and reminded them of the program of building and expanding schools and sports halls. "By 2028, our goal is for all schools to operate in one shift. We have received 24 approvals, 13 projects have been approved, and seven contracts have already been signed," said Boban.
Mayor Šuta thanked the city councilors who supported the project. "This is our policy for young families and improving knowledge. Every parent at school will sign a statement, after which they will be given 200 euros. Those who have already purchased the books will also receive the funds, on the condition that they return them to school at the end of the school year," he said.
The press conference was also attended by Deputy County Prefect Stipe Čogelja, Deputy Mayor Ivo Bilić, Head of the County Administrative Department for Education Tomislav Đonlić, and Head of the City Administrative Department for Social Activities Mate Omazić.
