The tenth jubilee veterans' bowling tournament organized by the Croatian War Veterans Association of Kaštela was held yesterday in Kaštel Kambelovac. 16 veterans' teams from Omiš to Trogir participated in it, with the aim of gathering as many veterans as possible each year and, through a day-long gathering, remembering the difficult, but above all proud, war days and the unity that adorned them during the creation of our independent state of Croatia.
It is held every year to mark the military police operation Storm - according to the association's secretary Zlatko Topić, - to this day there are those who dispute our operation Storm, which was a legal and legitimate, just action, above all, where the courage of the Croatian defenders was demonstrated, who with their sacrifice achieved that we have our own independent State of Croatia under the wise leadership of President Franjo Tuđman.
- We have achieved a thousand-year-old dream that many generations have not, and it is up to us to convey this historical truth to the younger generations. We must never tire of conveying this truth. It is difficult to describe these emotions. I am very proud of the Croatian Army parade in Zagreb, I am filled with tingles as I hand over the Croatian flag to the cadets who will continue to defend our homeland in our place.
The tournament was opened by the Mayor of Kaštela, Denis Ivanović, with the Croatian anthem and a minute of silence for the fallen Croatian defenders and victims of the Homeland War, who wished all defenders and all associations that emerged from the Homeland War a happy Victory Day and Homeland Gratitude. In his words - It is good for defenders to gather to chat a little, exchange their experiences, and we as the City will always support them. We organized Zogs here in Kaštel Kambelovac, and recently in Kaštel Gomilica.
The defenders practiced and prepared hard for this event, and after the tournament, the best this year was:
- The Veterans Association from Kaštel Gomilica, which deservedly won first place,
- second place Defenders from Cemex
- third place Battalion HOS
The winners from the Gomilička Veterans' Association concluded that they had tirelessly prepared for this tournament, that they had socialized and practiced from morning to night, so that they were the favorites and deservedly won.
