The bridge over the Kaštela Bay as part of the New Entrance to Split project could be included among more than 50 infrastructure projects for military-civilian purposes that Croatia plans to present as defense investments within NATO's target of five percent of GDP, Večernji list has learned.
The project fits into the criteria of trans-European corridors important for military mobility in the event of war, as it will connect the TEN-T network via the ferry port with the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor, and the bridge will enable new access to Split from the direction of the Dalmatian hinterland and relieve the existing western entrance, which creates heavy traffic jams during the summer season.
It will be built 1.594 meters long and will cross the eastern part of the Kaštela Bay. It will have four traffic lanes, and the total width of the roadway will be 22 meters.
At the end of May, Croatian Roads announced a design tender for the technical and design solution for the bridge, estimated to cost 685 thousand euros. The design work is part of the second phase of the New Entrance to Split project, whose total value exceeds hundreds of millions of euros.
There is great interest among potential contractors in the design of the bridge, which is evident from the fact that Croatian Roads has already changed the documentation five times due to numerous inquiries from participants. Therefore, the deadline for submitting tender documents has been extended to October 1st of this year, and it is possible that the deadlines will be extended again.
