Croatian Roads has announced a tender for the design of a reconstruction project for the state road DC58 through Plano, which begins preparations for one of the most important traffic reconstructions in the Trogir hinterland. The project covers a 3,3-kilometer section between Trogir and Kaštel Štafilić, where the road has been under heavy traffic for years, with narrow lanes, damaged asphalt, and pedestrians left to fend for themselves. The route also includes numerous intersections, dangerous curves, and makeshift bus stops, which further increases the risk of accidents.
The planned reconstruction will bring a wider and safer roadway, improved sidewalks, renovated bus stops, new public lighting and clearly marked traffic signals. Special attention will be paid to the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, as well as to better traffic flow. The project also envisages a drainage system solution and the replacement or protection of all installations that pass under the road.
The designer who wins the job will have 250 working days to prepare all necessary documentation, obtain permits, including location and construction permits, and prepare a cost estimate and phased construction plan. After that, a new tender for the contractor will follow.
As part of the project, a BIM model, or a digital 3D representation of the future road, is being created, which helps in better planning, monitoring and displaying all interventions. This improves cooperation between all participants, reduces errors and saves time during construction.
The tender for the design was announced on July 7, and bids are being accepted until July 28 at 11 a.m. If all goes smoothly, the design could be completed by the middle of next year. The public procurement process for the works is expected to begin then, and the construction site itself could open at the end of 2026 at the earliest.
For the residents of Plan, Trogir and Kaštela, this means that the first concrete steps towards a safer and more functional road have finally been taken, but that they will have to arm themselves with additional patience before they can enjoy all the benefits of the renovated road.
