Independent Councilor Independent Councilor of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Lećevica, Renata Kelam, issued a statement informing the public about last night's act of vandalism in the Kevina jama area in the town of Radošić and calling on those responsible to urgently take the necessary measures to protect this place from further desecration and provide the victims with a dignified resting place.
We are publishing the press release in its entirety.
"As an independent councilor of the Municipal Council of Lećevica Municipality, it is with deep regret and indignation that I inform the public about the act of vandalism that took place on the night of July 7-8, 2025, in the area of Kevina jama in the town of Radošić.
Unfortunately, during the night, someone broke two stone benches and scattered garbage in the area next to the pit, that is, in the place where, just a few meters away, the bones of innocent victims of communism, World War II and the post-war period rest. I find this act extremely shameful and unacceptable, especially considering the reverence we owe to the victims whose final resting place is precisely in that very place.
Kevin's Cave is not only a monument to the past, but also a lasting symbol of suffering and a reminder to all of us to preserve the dignity of every human life. Kevin's Cave was recently renovated with the funds of the Municipality of Kaštela and the Municipality of Prgomet, individuals from Radošić and Lećevica, certain associations, and the HSP Kaštela. Unfortunately, the Municipality of Lećevica did not participate in financing the renovation of the memorial and the cave.
I have repeatedly verbally requested Mayor Ante Baran that the Municipality of Lećevica become more actively involved in protecting this important site, primarily through the installation of lighting and surveillance cameras, in order to prevent similar incidents. To date, there has been no concrete progress in this direction, although such incidents have already occurred.
I also asked the mayor why several public lighting poles were installed in Kladnjice, next to a school that has not had children for years, which is located outside the settlement, and I would like to point out that this lighting is of no importance to residents living near the school, it is not functional, and it is a dilapidated building without windows and doors, while the lighting is not installed where it is really needed - near Kevin's Cave.
The police were informed about the incident at number 112 today at 13:44 p.m.
I inform the public that criminal charges will be filed against the unknown perpetrator of this act of vandalism.
"I call on all those responsible to urgently take the necessary measures to protect this site from further desecration, and to provide the victims with dignified resting places, and visitors with a safe and appropriate space to pay their respects."
