This year, Cemex continued its successful cooperation with Eco Schools from the local community and confirmed a partnership with these educational institutions that has lasted for more than two decades.
The company has thus extended its sponsorship with the Vjekoslav Paraća Elementary School and the Don Lovre Katić Elementary School in Solin, and the Kneza Mislav Elementary School in Kaštel Sućurac, which has been going on for 23 years, while in 2023 the partnership was expanded to the Kraljice Jelena Elementary School in Solin. As part of this project, Cemex supports schools in implementing environmental projects and activities, with the aim of raising awareness of environmental protection among young people. The cooperation includes various educational workshops, student participation in harvests in Cemex's olive groves, visits to the cement factory and other activities. Through the above, students have the opportunity to learn about sustainable development, recycling and the importance of a responsible relationship with nature.
The past year was special in that it also saw the implementation of the joint project BizLabJunior. It was the directors of the Eco Schools who expressed the need for stronger education for young people for a career and entrepreneurial future. Inspired by this idea, Cemex, together with the Faculty of Economics in Split, whose experts developed and implemented the program with 40 students from the Eco Schools, implemented this program, which is now ready to welcome a new generation of participants in the fall.
"This year has been truly eventful for us, especially when we consider the experiences of our students in the BizLabJunior project, which were excellent. Cooperation with Cemex brings numerous values to our community, the most important of which is support in educating young people for a sustainable future, precisely through projects like this one, but also numerous others that we implement together," she said. Andjelka Slavic, principal of Don Lovre Katić elementary school.
"The partnership with Eco Schools is one of the most important relationships we cultivate in achieving our social impact strategy. We believe that only through education from an early age can we positively influence the future of our communities, so we continue to support existing ones and look forward to jointly developing new projects," he said. Alain Voloder, President of the Management Board of Cemex Hrvatska.
The Eco School program focuses on educating and training young people on sustainable development topics through participation in workshops, working groups and projects. By gaining knowledge about energy efficiency, rational water use, waste reduction, environmental protection and other aspects of sustainability, students develop into environmentally conscious citizens. Schools that meet the requirements and continuously promote ecological values are awarded the International Eco School award and have the right to display the Green Flag.
