As part of the European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, the Kaštela Breast Cancer Treatment Women's Club is organizing a public event, Mimosa Day, on Saturday, January 25th in the gallery of the Kaštela shopping center from 10 am to 14 pm.
Following the example of Daffodil Day, which raises awareness of breast cancer, Croatia has been celebrating Mimosa Day for the eighteenth year in a row, dedicated to the prevention of cervical cancer, the second most common cancer in women. It is an educational and preventive action where, through the symbolism of a delicate flower, we talk about the necessity of education, vaccination and screening for cervical cancer. It is aimed at educating women and young girls about HPV, the possibilities of prevention and vaccination against HPV (Human Papilloma Virus).
Namely, cervical cancer accounts for four percent of the total number of women with cancer, from which around four hundred women in Croatia fall ill each year and one hundred and fifty women die.
It has been proven that some forms of HPV cause cervical cancer, and this is the only form of cancer for which the cause is definitely known, and that is a virus. Therefore, every woman should have a regular gynecological examination and a Pap test once a year, which would significantly reduce the risk of developing this malignant disease.
Educational brochures will be distributed on the occasion of Mimosa Day.
