The latest edition of the Kronika grada Kaštela program brings an overview of the events of the last week in Kaštela. You can see how the quality of life is improved through health prevention, systematic support for youth education, and the modernization of infrastructure for preschool education. The city continues to implement initiatives that combine humanitarian work, institutional assistance to students and pupils, and the creation of a safer environment for the development of children.
Mimosa day: A strong message about the importance of preventive examinations and the fight against HPV
As part of the European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, Kaštela celebrated this year Mimosa Day, an action that has been educating the public about the importance of early detection of this disease for 19 consecutive years. The Kaštela Breast Cancer Women's Club organized a public action using the symbolism of the delicate mimosa flower to highlight strength and hope, but also the fact that cervical cancer is the only cancer whose cause is known with certainty – human papillomavirus (HPV)That is why, in addition to regular gynecological examinations and Pap tests, vaccination of young girls is emphasized as a key method of prevention, which could significantly reduce the tragic statistics according to which around 150 women die from this disease in Croatia every year.
This commendable initiative was supported by the City of Kaštela, the Pensioners' Association of Kaštel Sućurac and the "Heart for Heart" association, while local entrepreneurs also helped in preparing the materials. The contribution of Točija Bratinčević, a long-time volunteer and winner of the Volunteer of the Year award, who has been helping to raise funds for necessary medical equipment for over two decades, emphasizing that fulfilling the goal and helping women is the greatest reward for the effort.
Investing in the future: Lists of scholarship recipients for the new academic year published
The City of Kaštela confirmed its commitment to the development of education and encouraging excellence by publishing the final lists for the award of scholarships for the school and academic year. 2025./2026.. Scholarships were awarded in several categories, encompassing students based on their achievements, but also on their socioeconomic status. Among first-year high school students, 14 scholarships were awarded based on the criterion of excellence, while 12 students were eligible for assistance based on their socioeconomic status. For upper-grade students, as many as 43 scholarships for excellence and 24 scholarships based on their socioeconomic status were provided, and the winners come from a wide range of educational institutions, from grammar schools and music schools to technical and health-related majors.
In addition to students, the city also supports young athletes with three scholarships for notable sporting results, while first-year college students are provided with 26 scholarships for excellence. These students come from a variety of higher education institutions, including medical, civil engineering, electrical engineering and economics faculties, creating a broad base of future professionals. All selected users will soon be invited to the official signing of the contract, the terms of which will be published on the City's website.
New playground at Višnjica kindergarten: A modern space for play and development in Kaštel Stari
Toddlers in kindergarten Cherry tree in Kaštel Stari received a completely new, modern and safe playground that replaced the former unkempt yard space. The project was implemented within the contracted period of 60 days according to the conceptual design of the architectural bureau of Luka Petrićević, and included the installation of eight modern playgrounds, concrete benches and trash cans. The main goal of this investment is not only entertainment, but also the stimulation of locomotor and cognitive skills in children, which directly contributes to the quality of preschool education in the local community.
The total value of works and equipment exceeded 105.000 euros excluding VAT, and the financial construction was closed by the joint efforts of several institutions. The Ministry of Demography and Immigration participated with 50.000 euros, the Split-Dalmatia County contributed 4.000 euros, while the remaining amount was provided by the City of Kaštela. Although the main works have been completed, the entire project will be completed in the spring, when additional horticultural landscaping is planned that will enhance the space for children's daily stay.
