Yesterday we entered February, the last month of the climatological winter. As we wrote earlier, January was rainier than average throughout Dalmatia, and in the area from Makarska to the Neretva Valley, with the precipitation epicenter in the Vrgorac area, it was record-breaking. In some places, more than 400 liters of precipitation per square meter, he writes Dalmacijadanas.
It was less rainy, but still above average, in northern Dalmatia. Temperature-wise, January in Dalmatia was warmer than the 1991-2020 average everywhere.
It can already be said that we can expect a lot of precipitation in the first part of February, and in the first decade there will be no real winter air temperatures. In addition, the cyclone will bring a new strong southerly wind, the peak of which will be on Tuesday and especially in the second part of Wednesday, when hurricane-force winds are expected. Such a strong wind will cause high waves that will cause the most problems for sea traffic on Wednesday.
The Croatian Meteorological Agency (DHMZ) has issued an orange warning for the Dalmatian Sea within the MeteoAlarm system for Tuesday and Wednesday, as they predict gusts of up to 110 km/h. It will probably not be surprising if the level is raised to red for Wednesday in the meantime.
Monday will be the only sunny day of the new week, the rest will be dominated by clouds, with occasional rain. Temperatures will be above normal for part of the year, especially in the middle of the week.
Today will be mostly sunny. At night and in the morning, a weak to moderate bora will blow, stronger only at the foot of Velebit. During the day, the bora will stop, turning to tramontana at sea, but it will also stop in the evening when the wind will turn to weak to moderate jugo. In the middle of the night, increasing cloudiness from the west. Minimum morning air temperatures from -3 to 8°C, highest daytime temperatures lower compared to Sunday, mostly from 6 to 12°C.
Tuesday brings cloudy weather. There will be occasional rain, more specifically only in the late afternoon and evening. The wind will be moderate to strong, in the afternoon and very strong south with storm gusts. The sea will gradually become wavy in the second part of the day. Warmer in the morning, highest daily temperatures from 9 to 15°C.
Wednesday will be mostly cloudy. There will be occasional rain, mostly in the second part of the day when there will be strong thunderstorms in places. In many areas, over 50 liters per square meter will fall. Strong and very strong south winds will blow, which in the second part of the day in parts of Dalmatia may reach storm averages and hurricane force winds. Waves will cause major problems in sea traffic, and some models predict exceptionally high waves over the open sea of parts of the central and northern Adriatic. Late in the evening, westerly winds are possible on the open sea, and cyclonic tides along the coast and on the islands. Temperatures will be similar throughout the day, above the average for this part of the year, mostly from 10 to 16°C.
Thursday brings unstable weather, although moderately more favorable compared to Wednesday. There will still be occasional rain, showers and thunderstorms. Snow is possible during the day in the highest mountains of Dalmatia. Towards the end of the day, precipitation will cease, and short sunny periods are possible. The wind will be lebić, and towards the end of the day, jugo. It will be 2 to 4 degrees cooler than Wednesday.
Friday will be moderately to mostly cloudy, with occasional rain, and showers and thunderstorms are possible. Moderate to strong southerly winds will blow most of the day, stopping by the end of the day. Mornings a little cooler, daytime temperatures mostly between 8 and 14°C.
According to today's forecast materials and weekend days will pass under the sign of changeable weather. It will be mostly cloudy, with only short sunny periods possible. There will be occasional rain, more likely on Sunday, especially in the second part of the day. Air temperatures will drop slightly.
